What the report says
MTN Uganda Board Chairman Charles Mbire has paid tribute to the late King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, calling the monarch’s death a major loss for the Tooro Kingdom and for Uganda. According to The Independent Uganda, Mbire visited the king’s residence in Buziga, Kampala, on Thursday to extend condolences to the royal family and people of Tooro and to sign a condolence book.
The publisher reported that Mbire spoke on behalf of MTN Uganda’s board, management and staff, saying King Oyo carried the hopes of his people. He also noted the company’s long-running cooperation with Tooro Kingdom in areas such as youth, sports, health, education and community development. In the article, MTN Uganda framed that partnership as part of its wider support for cultural institutions and community progress.
Mbire also said MTN Uganda would contribute Ush 100 million through the National Organizing Committee to help with preparations for the king’s interment.
