What the report says

MTN Uganda and Afro Mobile have launched MTN TV by Afro Mobile, a digital entertainment platform intended to widen access to both Ugandan and international content while giving local creators new ways to distribute and earn from their work. The launch was reported by Nile Post and took place in Uganda, with MTN Uganda chief executive Sylvia Mulinge and Afro Mobile general manager Kevin Kaija among the speakers.

According to the report, MTN says the platform was built in response to rising demand for convenient digital entertainment. Mulinge said the service is meant to make it easier for users to find football, films and music in one place, while also encouraging more people to use the internet through attractive content. She also framed content as an important part of the digital economy.

Afro Mobile said the partnership could help Ugandan creatives reach wider audiences, including beyond the country’s borders. Film producer Eleanor Nabwiso welcomed the initiative, saying it could help address challenges around funding and distribution that have long affected the sector.

The Uganda Communications Commission, through a representative, also welcomed the growth of digital content but urged providers to maintain trust, service quality and compliance with regulation. More broadly, the launch reflects a growing push in Uganda to expand the digital entertainment market and support local creative industries, though the report does not detail how the platform will be rolled out or what content libraries it will carry.
