MTN, Partners Donate Equipment, Install 20KW Solar System at Kiyunga Health Centre IV

MTN Uganda and its partners have provided new support to Kiyunga Health Centre IV in Luuka District, delivering medical equipment, a 20-kilowatt hybrid solar system and community services aimed at improving care at the facility. The aid was rolled out under MTN’s annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative, which the company says mobilises staff and partners for community volunteer work.

According to Nile Post, the package included delivery beds, oxygen concentrators and autoclaves, as well as 10 bicycles and smartphones for Village Health Teams. The solar installation is intended to ease power shortages in key areas such as the theatre and maternity wards, allowing more of the donated equipment to be used reliably. MTN Uganda Chief Executive Sylvia Mulinge said this year’s campaign focuses on healthcare and equitable access to essential services.

Health workers and district officials said the facility serves about 3,000 patients each month, placing pressure on its equipment, staffing and infrastructure. Dr Gideon Mukama, the facility in-charge, said dependable electricity would improve service delivery. The report also quoted Luuka District Health Officer Dr Christopher Wandira, who urged authorities to consider upgrading the centre to a district hospital to meet rising demand.
