MTN MoMo offers families 20% discount on back to school shopping

MTN MoMo is giving Ugandan customers a 20% discount on selected back-to-school purchases as families prepare for the new school term, according to The Independent Uganda. The offer ran from September 15 to 30, 2026, and was available to shoppers who paid through the MoMo App at participating retailers including Capital Shoppers, Shopwise, Fraine Supermarket and Cynabel Supermarket in Kampala and other locations.

The newspaper said the promotion was meant to help ease costs that come with the start of term, such as school supplies, clothing, food and other household needs. One customer, Mary Muyama of Ntinda, told the publication she received an immediate cashback-style saving while shopping for her children at Fraine Supermarket and found the process simple.

The discount is part of MTN MoMo’s broader Term 3 campaign, “Win School Fees for a Year and More,” which also includes a school-fees prize of up to Shs6 million for eligible users and financing options for parents paying for multiple children. Keith Tukei, MTN MoMo Uganda’s chief commercial officer, said the company wants digital payments to offer value beyond the transaction itself.

More broadly, the report reflects how mobile money providers in Uganda are linking payment services with retail promotions and education-related support, as households continue to manage high beginning-of-term expenses.
