MTN Commits Shs500m to Fund 25 Community Projects

MTN Uganda has announced Shs500 million in new support for 25 community projects under the fourth phase of its MTN Changemakers Initiative, according to Nile Post. The programme is being run through MTN Foundation and is aimed at organisations working in health, education, water and sanitation, environmental sustainability and economic empowerment across Uganda.

The company said applications for the latest round are open until September 30, 2026. Instead of cash grants, selected projects will receive in-kind support worth up to Shs20 million each. MTN said this can include equipment, technical assistance, materials, implementation help and follow-up, with the goal of making community solutions more sustainable after the initial intervention.

MTN Uganda said the new commitment lifts its total investment in the Changemakers programme to more than Shs1.5 billion since the initiative began four years ago. The company said the programme has already backed 75 projects in five regions and reached 274,716 direct beneficiaries. A company representative said the effort is meant to help communities design solutions to local challenges. The initiative also fits within MTN Uganda’s Ambition 2030 strategy, which focuses on expanding access to opportunities and supporting inclusive growth.

Nile Post also cited an earlier beneficiary, Kara Girl Initiative in Kotido District, as an example of the programme’s impact. The social enterprise uses support for reusable sanitary pad production to promote menstrual health and help girls stay in school.
