MPs Briefed Ahead of Pakistan Climate Change Conference

What the report says
The Office of the Deputy Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament has briefed a delegation of lawmakers and technical staff ahead of their trip to Pakistan for the International Parliamentarians’ Conference on Climate Change. According to Nile Post, the meeting will take place in Islamabad on October 19–20, 2026, and the Ugandan team is scheduled to include MPs Aggrey Henry Bagiire, Nicholas Owino, Joan Namutaawe and Alli Ismail Ogama, along with technical staff led by Dr Deo Arinaitwe Rugyendo.
Parliament said the visit is part of a wider effort to use parliamentary diplomacy alongside traditional diplomacy to deepen Uganda-Pakistan relations. Officials also framed the conference as a chance to advance cooperation on climate change and water security, two issues presented as priorities for Uganda and other participating countries.
The delegation was urged to focus on Uganda’s national interests, engage constructively and follow diplomatic protocol while abroad. Parliament also wants the trip to produce practical results, such as stronger bilateral cooperation, shared knowledge and recommendations that could support climate resilience, water security and sustainable development at home.
More broadly, the Islamabad conference is expected to gather legislators from different countries to discuss policy responses to climate and water-related challenges. In that context, Uganda’s participation appears aimed at combining international engagement with possible benefits for domestic environmental and development planning.
