Police in Mpigi District have arrested a 28-year-old man, identified by Nile Post as Lawrence Kyambade, over a TikTok video that allegedly contained insults, threats and derogatory remarks directed at President Yoweri Museveni and members of his family. The arrest followed a manhunt after the video reportedly came to the attention of security authorities.

According to the report, police allege the video also targeted Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, and included statements said to wish death on Museveni and his supporters. The publication said Kyambade was also accused of making claims about Museveni’s ethnic identity and of alleging that the president and Muhoozi intended to undermine the Buganda Kingdom.

Police said the suspect was found in the Kalongero area of Nabitete Parish, Buwama Sub-county, and taken to Buwama Police Station. Officers later said he appeared confused and gave different names during questioning. Katonga Regional Police spokesperson Lydia Tumushabe said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances and intent behind the posts.

The case highlights continuing police scrutiny of social media use in Uganda, particularly posts seen as abusive or inciting. For now, the allegations have not been tested in court, and police have said they will pursue anyone who uses digital platforms to break the law.
