MP Sebamala applauded for steering economic development in Bukoto Central

What the report says
Residents in Bukoto Central, Masaka District, have praised Member of Parliament Richard Sebamala for what they describe as efforts to support local economic development through road projects and help for community leaders. According to Watchdog Uganda, Sebamala has been linked to follow-up work on government programmes and has provided funds for fuel and transport for roads committee members who monitor construction.
The report says the MP, who is also a former Democratic Party presidential aspirant, has been credited with helping secure several road projects in the constituency. Masaka District Chairperson John Kakande said the roads were obtained through Sebamala’s lobbying, including six routes under the Ministry of Works and Transport in 2024, when Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala was minister.
The roads named in the article are Kanamusabala, Bukunda, Kiteredde, Ttala, Luvunja and Kaluma. Watchdog Uganda says they have improved access to markets, farms and trading centres, which is important in a largely trade- and agriculture-dependent area. The piece also notes that residents said Sebamala supported 200 villages during the election period.
The broader significance is that local leaders and residents see road infrastructure as a practical driver of economic activity, helping movement of goods and people and potentially opening more business opportunities across Bukoto Central.
