MP Bisaso Leads Kassanda in National Clean-Up Drive

Watchdog Uganda reported that Kassanda District took part on Saturday in Uganda’s first National Cleaning Day, with Kassanda South MP Hon. Hajji Abdul Bisaso helping mobilise residents for a community sanitation exercise. The main activity cited by the outlet was at St. Matia Mulumba Health Centre III in Nakiganda, Kiganda Town Council, where local leaders and residents joined the clean-up. The report said other exercises were also held in parts of the district, including Kiganda, Kassanda and Bukuya town councils.

According to the publisher, the national exercise follows a directive announced by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja designating the last Saturday of each month for cleaning activities between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The programme, which the report says was approved by Cabinet under President Yoweri Museveni, is intended to improve sanitation in homes, markets, schools, health centres, roads, drainage channels and other public spaces, with a public-health goal of reducing diseases associated with poor hygiene.

In Kassanda, Bisaso was described as working alongside residents around the health facility, while Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mike Ssegawa welcomed the presidential approval of the initiative and linked it to concerns about sanitation in townships. Parish and town-council leaders reportedly helped coordinate attention to priority areas such as health facilities, markets and drainage channels. The development matters because the monthly clean-up campaign seeks to turn sanitation from an occasional activity into a regular civic responsibility across Uganda.
