Moyo Lab Technician Remanded Over Alleged Job Scam

What the report says
A laboratory technician attached to Lugoba Health Centre III in Moyo District, Ricgard Amegovu, has been remanded to prison until August 26 after appearing in court over allegations that he obtained money from job seekers by false pretence. The case was reported by Nile Post and involves accusations that he misled applicants with promises of help securing government jobs.
According to the publication, investigators say the alleged scheme took place in Moyo Town Council between 2023 and 2024. Amegovu is accused of collecting money from several applicants while claiming he could help them get positions in Moyo District Local Government, including jobs for enrolled nurses and clinical officers. The reported amounts ranged from Shs3 million to Shs10 million per applicant.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit said it worked with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions before Amegovu was arraigned on Wednesday. Nile Post reported that investigators believe other suspects are still at large and may have helped persuade victims to pay.
The case comes amid the government’s ongoing “Expose the Corrupt” campaign, which has prompted complaints from residents in Moyo District. The Anti-Corruption Unit urged the public not to pay anyone claiming to influence public recruitment and said investigations are continuing.
