Moyes lives with disappointment after deadline day

Everton manager David Moyes said he was left disappointed after the club failed to complete several late transfer moves on deadline day, but he accepted the outcome and said the team would move on. BBC Sport reported that Everton had targeted additional signings, including Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa’s Tammy Abraham, yet only some of those attempts advanced before the window closed.

The most notable near-deal involved Balogun, whose proposed move collapsed after he reportedly changed his mind following a medical at Everton’s Finch Farm training base. BBC Sport said Everton and Monaco had even renegotiated an initial £40m agreement and used a deal sheet to try to extend the process before the deadline. Moyes said the problem was connected to the medical and rejected suggestions of any other explanation.

Everton did complete one high-profile addition by signing Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City, while winger Iliman Ndiaye went the other way in a £65m move to City. The club also sold Beto to Fiorentina and brought in right-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon for £3m. Moyes said outgoing deals were partly aimed at creating funds for new arrivals, but several targets could not be persuaded to join or could not be completed in time.

The report suggests Everton’s window reflected both ambition and frustration, with the club reshaping its squad but missing out on some of the reinforcements Moyes wanted.
