Moses Matovu murder suspect remanded to Luzira

What the report says
Vincent Arnold Nsamba, also known as Sitenda, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of veteran Ugandan musician Moses Matovu and remanded to Luzira Upper Prison until November 3, according to Nile Post. Nsamba appeared before the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court, where Senior Grade One Magistrate Aidah Nanjala read the charge but did not take a plea because murder is a capital offence outside the magistrate’s jurisdiction.
The prosecution says Nsamba, a 47-year-old driver from Kibuli Parish, caused Matovu’s death at Market “B” Zone in Kibuli, Makindye Division, Kampala. Nile Post reports that investigators allege Matovu, 77, died after an altercation on September 24, following an encounter near the home of Rose Tumusiime. Police have said Matovu was attacked as he left the residence, and that he was later rushed to hospital but died while receiving treatment.
Court was told that investigations are still continuing, and Nsamba was advised that he may apply for bail at the High Court. The magistrate cautioned him against making further statements in court and set the case for mention on November 3, 2026. In the wider context of Uganda’s criminal justice process, capital cases such as murder are generally handled by the High Court after committal procedures, rather than being fully tried in a magistrate’s court.
Nile Post also reported that Tumusiime was arrested in connection with the investigation and brought to court, though her file was not yet ready for prosecution.
