Moroto Deputy RDC Tuko Urges Stronger Accountability as KACC Highlights Audit Concerns

MOROTO, UGANDA — Watchdog Uganda reports that Moroto Deputy Resident District Commissioner Tuko Justin praised the Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition (KACC) for its work on accountability and anti-corruption efforts during a public dissemination of audit findings. The event took place on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Moroto District headquarters and focused on the Auditor General’s report for Moroto District covering the 2024/2025 financial year.

According to the report, KACC presented several concerns raised in the audit, including salary overpayments, unimplemented procurements and weak planning for disposal of public assets. Tuko responded by encouraging KACC to consult the Office of the Auditor General where there may be differences between the report’s findings and conditions on the ground. District officials and other stakeholders attended the meeting, which was framed as a forum for reviewing public financial management and corrective action.

Moroto District Community Development Officer Magie Lolem also addressed questions about balances left under the Youth Livelihood Programme and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme, saying about half of the outstanding funds had been recovered. KACC staff said the exercise would continue across Karamoja Sub-region to raise awareness and help strengthen oversight of public resources. The broader significance is that the discussion reflects ongoing pressure on local governments to improve audit compliance, transparency and service delivery.
