More than 600 US military service members injured since Iran War began in February - BBC

What the report says
BBC News reported that at least 624 US service members have been wounded since President Donald Trump ordered strikes on Iran in February, citing the Pentagon’s latest casualty update dated 25 July. The total is split between 417 wounded under Operation Epic Fury and 207 listed under a newer category called “Overseas Operations.” The report said the US and Iran reached a ceasefire in April and signed a memorandum of understanding in June, but attacks by both sides continued.
The BBC said the Pentagon recently revised how some casualties were categorized. Four service members who had appeared in the death toll for Operation Epic Fury were moved into the Overseas Operations category, lowering the Epic Fury death count from 18 to 14. The new category, described on the Pentagon site as covering casualties starting 7 July 2026, listed those four deaths and 207 wounded, though the BBC said it was not clear whether every injury in that group was tied to the Iran conflict.
The changes drew criticism from Lt Gen Ben Hodges, a former commander of US forces in Europe, and Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, who questioned the split in casualty categories. The BBC said it contacted the Department of Defense for comment. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell wrote on X that the changes reflected “temporary data disruptions” and said the issues were being addressed with the military services.
According to the BBC, the recategorization followed renewed July violence, including Iranian strikes on US bases in Jordan and Iraq and US attacks on Iranian military infrastructure. The report said there had been a pause in attacks over the most recent three nights.
