More Than 19 Million Eggs Sold at Kroger, Brookshire’s and More Recalled for Salmonella Risk - TODAY.com

TODAY reported that Midwest Poultry Services L.P. has voluntarily recalled 1,589,577 dozen eggs — more than 19 million individual eggs — because of possible salmonella contamination. The recall notice was posted by the Food and Drug Administration on July 22, 2026, and covers white shell eggs and cage-free brown shell eggs produced at affected farms in Texas and distributed from June 6 to July 3, 2026.

According to the report, the recalled eggs were sold under several labels, including Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire’s, Country Morning and Sunups. They reached Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana; Brookshire Grocery locations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas; and some smaller retailers. Only cartons with specified codes, best-by dates from July 20 through August 17, 2026, and Julian dates 157 through 184 are included.

The FDA said on July 24 that it was investigating a salmonella outbreak involving 98 illnesses in 17 states linked to eggs from Midwest Poultry Services. Illness onset dates reported in the investigation ranged from Nov. 21, 2025, to June 30, 2026. TODAY cited the FDA as saying laboratory, epidemiological and traceback findings point to the recalled shell eggs as a likely source, while investigators continue checking for any other sources.

Consumers who have recalled eggs are advised not to eat them and to throw them away or return them for a refund. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps, and it can be more serious for young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
