Mogadishu City Arrive as Kitara Bring Continental Football to Hoima

Kitara FC are set to make history in Hoima by hosting Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club in a CAF Confederation Cup tie, a fixture that will bring continental football to western Uganda for the first time. According to Nile Post, the Somali delegation arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday, Sept. 1, before travelling to Hoima, where they will stay at Golden Castle Hotel ahead of the match at Hoima City Stadium.

Kitara chief executive officer Joshua Atugonza welcomed the visitors and said the club was prepared for the challenge. He also framed the match as a milestone for the club and for local supporters, noting that previous continental games could not be hosted in Uganda because of stadium limitations. Kitara earned their place in the competition by winning the Uganda Cup, giving them a second appearance in African club football.

The Hoima fixture is significant because Kitara’s earlier continental debut in the 2024/25 season was played entirely in Libya against Al Hilal Benghazi, after Uganda lacked a CAF-certified venue at the time. With Hoima City Stadium now available, fans in Hoima and the wider Bunyoro region can see a CAF match on home soil for the first time.

Nile Post said ticket prices were set at Shs20,000 for ordinary admission and Shs50,000 for VIP access. Beyond the result, the match highlights how improved stadium infrastructure is allowing western Uganda to host high-level club football.
