MLB trade deadline landing spots: Predicting new teams for Tarik Skubal, Freddy Peralta, Luis Arraez, more - CBS Sports

What the report says
CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa, Dayn Perry and Matt Snyder previewed possible Major League Baseball trade deadline outcomes in a July 21 article, with the deadline scheduled for Aug. 3. The writers framed the market as unusually uncertain because many teams remain close enough in the standings to debate whether to add talent, move veterans, or do both.
A central focus was Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. Axisa predicted the Los Angeles Dodgers could pursue him, citing their championship ambitions, pitching injuries and strong farm system. Perry and Snyder instead projected that Detroit would keep Skubal, arguing the Tigers’ improved play and American League playoff picture could make it difficult to trade their top starter. CBS Sports noted the Braves as a possible competitor in any Dodgers pursuit, according to Axisa’s analysis.
The panel also split on Freddy Peralta, with Axisa and Snyder linking him to the Chicago Cubs because of their need for October-caliber starting pitching and his past connection to manager Craig Counsell. Perry suggested a return to the Milwaukee Brewers, pointing to rotation injuries and familiarity. For Taylor Ward, Axisa and Snyder identified the Philadelphia Phillies as a fit because of their need for a right-handed outfielder, while Perry picked the Miami Marlins.
On Luis Arraez, Perry and Snyder viewed the Boston Red Sox as a logical landing spot at second base amid their recent surge, while Axisa predicted the San Francisco Giants might keep and extend him if trade offers disappoint. All three writers agreed Boston is unlikely to move closer Aroldis Chapman, describing the Red Sox as back in the playoff race rather than clear sellers.
