Mityana Municipality Seeks Government Support to Develop Ttanda Cultural Site

What the report says
Mityana Municipality leaders are seeking central government support to develop Ttanda as a cultural tourism site, saying the project could help preserve Buganda heritage, draw visitors and create local economic opportunities. According to Nile Post, the appeal followed discussions among the municipality’s technical and political leaders about how to improve the site and broaden its tourism value.
The proposal was presented by Philip Emanuel Kakooza, a recent Kyambogo University graduate, who outlined ideas for upgrading the area with better infrastructure, road signage and cultural features tied to Buganda’s traditional stories. The plan references the well-known narrative of Kintu, Nambi, Walumbe and Kayikuuzi, which would be used to give visitors a stronger sense of the site’s historical and cultural significance.
Town Clerk Godfrey Kateeba praised the initiative and said cooperation among technical experts, politicians and other stakeholders would be needed to turn the ideas into practical work. Mayor Faustine Mukambwe Lukonge also urged the central government to back tourism development in the municipality, arguing that outside support could help overcome resource and infrastructure gaps.
The reported push reflects a broader effort by local leaders to position Ttanda as a cultural destination in Mityana. More broadly, cultural tourism projects often aim to combine heritage preservation with community income, but the article indicates that implementation will depend on further planning and resource mobilisation.
