Mityana Agrovet takes over town cleaning after Homkline contract ends

Mityana Agrovet Company has begun providing cleaning services in Mityana Municipality after the contract of the previous provider, Homkline, was ended. According to Nile Post, the new arrangement is meant to cover Central Division and Ttamu Division as municipal authorities work to improve sanitation and respond to complaints from residents about earlier cleaning operations.

The transition was presented to residents by local leaders, including John Kasozi, the Mayor of Central Division. Kasozi urged people to watch the new contractor closely, report any sanitation gaps, and help ensure the company avoids the problems that prompted complaints under the former arrangement. He also called on Mityana Agrovet to work closely with communities and keep the town clean.

Mityana Agrovet’s spokesperson, Godfrey Ssemwezi, asked residents to cooperate with the company’s workers as operations begin. He said the firm wants to listen to public concerns and extend services across the areas where they are needed. Residents, including representatives from Ajib Area, used the meeting to raise concerns and priorities tied to the former contractor’s performance.

The handover matters because municipal sanitation affects public health, local confidence in service delivery, and day-to-day conditions in the town. More broadly, the report reflects how local authorities in Uganda often rely on private contractors for urban cleaning, with community monitoring used as a way to improve accountability.
