Mitch McConnell provides health update, new photo as rehab continues - The Courier-Journal

What the report says
The Courier Journal reported that U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell will not attend Kentucky’s 2026 Fancy Farm picnic as he continues rehabilitation after a fall at his Washington, D.C., residence last month. In a July 27 update from his office, McConnell said he is following doctors’ orders and undergoing intensive physical therapy while working toward resuming his Senate and Kentucky schedule.
According to the report, McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 and remains in a rehabilitation facility. A statement from the U.S. Congress’ Office of the Attending Physician said doctors are meeting with him daily and that his therapy includes multiple sessions aimed at rebuilding strength and reducing fall risk. The statement also said his childhood polio remains an important factor in his mobility and that he has not yet been cleared to leave the facility or return to the office.
The Fancy Farm picnic, scheduled for Aug. 1 in western Kentucky, is a long-running political event where candidates and elected officials deliver speeches before large partisan crowds. McConnell said he regretted missing what would have been his final appearance there as an elected official, noting how much the region’s politics have shifted during his decades in public life. His office also released a July 26 photo of McConnell with his wife, former U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao.
The Courier Journal noted that McConnell, 84, has not appeared publicly or given interviews since the hospitalization, prompting calls for more transparency. A prior statement said he had minor injuries, briefly lost consciousness and had no fractures, stroke, tumor, hemorrhage or cardiac abnormalities. McConnell is not seeking reelection and is set to leave office at year’s end.
