What the report says

At least two people were killed and several others were wounded, including three police officers, after a shooting in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to Al Jazeera’s report published on September 3, 2026. Police spokesman Garret Parten said officers were called to an apartment high-rise near the Minneapolis Convention Center shortly after 4:30pm local time on September 2, where they found multiple victims after entering the building.

Parten said one person died at the scene and four others were taken to hospital, where one later died. Three officers were also hospitalized; two had been shot, and all three were reported to be in stable condition. Police said the suspected gunman is also dead, though they did not immediately say how he died.

Authorities said they had no immediate information on the motive or on the condition of everyone injured. Video posted online showed police with weapons pointed toward the building, underscoring the scale of the response in the downtown area.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said state officials were assisting local law enforcement, and state House Speaker Lisa Demuth called the attack a heinous crime. The report also noted that the Minneapolis shooting occurred the same day as another school shooting in Waynesboro, Virginia, and amid a recent series of deadly shootings in other U.S. cities.
