Minister Nameere Urges Clergy to Pray Against Corruption as Jinja Celebrates Bishop Sserwadda’s 50th Anniversary

Jinja City drew a large crowd on Saturday, August 29, 2026, for celebrations marking Bishop Dr. Zachariah Sserwadda and Rev. Robinah Sserwadda’s 50 years of marriage and 51 years in ministry, according to Watchdog Uganda. The event brought together residents, clergy and dignitaries from Uganda and neighboring East African countries. The couple arrived in a highly visible procession that included a helicopter landing, a vintage donkey-pulled Rolls Royce and a motorcade before the main service at Evangel Church World Vision on Oboja Road.

State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere Nsubuga attended as chief guest, representing Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja. In her remarks, she used the occasion to call corruption a major barrier to development and urged religious leaders to support the anti-corruption effort through prayer and moral teaching. She also referenced her own experience of resisting bribery while serving as a senior presidential adviser and encouraged parents to raise children with strong values.

The minister praised the Sserwaddas for their long marriage, family life and service in ministry. The ceremony also featured the launch of Bishop Sserwadda’s memoir, Pressed Down But Not Crushed. Watchdog Uganda said the milestone gathering drew more than 1,000 guests, highlighting the couple’s standing in church and public life.
