Minister Babalanda Urges Bugweri Households to Embrace Government Wealth-Creation Programmes

BUGWERI, Uganda — Minister for the Presidency Babirye Milly Babalanda on Thursday attended a thanksgiving service in Bugweri County for newly elected MP Hajji Wandera Sadara, alongside Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth Oboth and local residents. According to Watchdog Uganda, the event celebrated Wandera Sadara’s election to the 12th Parliament and drew religious leaders, district officials, NRM leaders and hundreds of supporters.

Babalanda delivered greetings said to be from President Yoweri Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni and staff in the Office of the President. She thanked voters in Bugweri for backing Wandera Sadara and other NRM candidates in the recent general elections, saying their support reflected a desire for stability and development. Her remarks framed the election result as part of the ruling party’s broader effort to improve livelihoods at the grassroots.

The minister’s central message was a call for households to join government wealth-creation initiatives instead of relying on subsistence farming alone. She pointed to programmes such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation and the 4-Acre Model as channels for moving families into the money economy and raising incomes. She also urged residents to work with elected leaders and use parish-level structures to ensure the programmes reach households.

The report said Babalanda stressed that the government wants no one left behind as Uganda pursues higher income status. The service also served as a political show of support for Wandera Sadara and the NRM in Bugweri, a constituency in eastern Uganda.
