Minister Babalanda rallies Kaliro residents to embrace wealth creation and fight corruption

Uganda’s Minister for the Presidency and Budiope West MP, Babirye Milly Babalanda, visited Kaliro District yesterday to join the family of the late Ngobi Fred for a thanksgiving service and the commissioning of a new family home. According to Watchdog Uganda, the event was both a religious celebration and a public appeal for residents to focus on household development, unity and faith-based values.

In her remarks, Babalanda relayed greetings from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni and staff in the Office of the Presidency. She praised the family for working together to complete the home and encouraged them to continue raising children in faith. She also said a house should be seen not only as shelter but as a base for family stability, hospitality and shared values.

The minister used the gathering to urge people in Kaliro to reject corruption, which she said undermines public services and development. She called on households to make greater use of government livelihood initiatives, including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, Youth Livelihood, Operation Wealth Creation and GROW, arguing that these programmes can support jobs and better incomes if used with discipline and accountability.

Babalanda also promoted the 4-Acre Model, a farming approach associated with President Museveni’s poverty-reduction messaging, and encouraged backyard enterprises such as poultry and piggery for steady income. The wider message of the event was that rural families can improve their welfare through hard work, savings, and better use of available government support.
