Minister Babalanda rallies Busoga to vote NRM candidates in upcoming LCII elections

JINJA, Uganda — Minister for the Presidency Babirye Milly Babalanda used a media briefing in the Busoga Sub-region to urge voters to back National Resistance Movement-endorsed candidates in the upcoming Local Council II elections, which Watchdog Uganda said are scheduled for Monday, August 10, 2026. She framed the appeal as part of a broader effort to consolidate support for the ruling party at parish and local leadership levels.

According to the report, Babalanda thanked people in Busoga for supporting NRM candidates in the recently concluded Local Council I polls and called on them to repeat that outcome in the next round of elections. She also said local leaders should focus on service delivery, economic empowerment and cooperation with government programs rather than partisan divisions.

The minister singled out parish-level leadership as important for implementing state wealth-creation initiatives, including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga and related programs. She said parish officials and local council leaders help explain government policy, identify households for support and oversee accountability for public funds. Watchdog Uganda also reported that she instructed resident district and city commissioners, police and other security agencies to improve supervision and protection during the electoral process.

The appeal comes amid Uganda’s ongoing local government elections, where parish and lower-council offices often serve as a link between national policy and households. The report said Babalanda urged peaceful participation and encouraged voters to choose leaders willing to work with government on development priorities.
