Minister Babalanda Hails Late Gen. Moses Ali as a Patriot, Peacemaker and Pillar of National Unity

Watchdog Uganda reported that Minister for the Presidency and Budiope West MP Babirye Milly Babalanda joined lawmakers at a special sitting of Parliament held in honour of the late Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali. Speaking during the tribute, Babalanda described Ali as a major figure in Uganda’s public life, citing his military service, long political career and role in promoting peace, unity and national development.

According to the report, Babalanda highlighted Ali’s more than two decades of parliamentary representation in the West Nile region. She said he was elected MP for East Moyo County in 2001, returned to Parliament in 2011, and later represented Adjumani West County from 2016 until his death, which the article said occurred the previous Saturday. She pointed to his continued electoral support, including at the age of 86, as evidence of the confidence held by his constituents.

The minister also told Parliament that Ali’s experience, calm style and ability to build agreement across political lines would be missed. Watchdog Uganda reported that she linked his legacy to national reconciliation, saying he had chosen dialogue by abandoning rebellion and joining the National Resistance Movement under President Yoweri Museveni, a move she said contributed to peace in West Nile.

Babalanda conveyed condolences on behalf of the Office of the President to President Museveni, the First Family, Ali’s relatives, and communities in Adjumani and West Nile. The tribute underscored Ali’s place as one of Uganda’s long-serving political and military figures, particularly in a region where his career remained closely tied to representation and reconciliation.
