What the report says

Minister for the Presidency Babirye Milly Babalanda has carried out a Parish Development Model (PDM) assessment visit in Iringa West Parish, Nkondo Sub-County, in Buyende District, where she met beneficiaries and local leaders. According to Watchdog Uganda, the visit was part of a broader monitoring effort to check how PDM funds are being used at household level and whether they are supporting wealth creation.

During the engagement, Babalanda said the PDM is a key government programme intended to help households move from subsistence living into the money economy. She relayed greetings from President Yoweri Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni and officials in the Office of the President, and urged beneficiaries to use the money responsibly rather than divert it to non-productive spending. She also called on district technical staff, political leaders and PDM SACCO leaders to offer guidance, supervision and accountability.

The minister praised Buyende district officials for their work and encouraged continued support through training, record keeping and market linkages. She said the government is prioritizing anti-corruption efforts and poverty reduction, and indicated that similar assessment tours will continue to follow PDM implementation. She also encouraged households to consider small backyard enterprises such as poultry and piggery, depending on community and religious context, as a way to generate quicker income.
