BBC World News reports that Universal Studios has moved to remove leaked copies of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey after versions of the film appeared on X over the weekend. The BBC, citing Variety, said one post containing a high-quality bootleg of the three-hour movie drew 2.1 million views in about two and a half hours on Saturday before the account was suspended.

The film stars Matt Damon and Zendaya and was shot entirely on 70mm film, a format associated with large-format cinema and Imax presentation. BBC noted that Nolan has emphasized seeing the film on the largest screen possible, making the appearance of a full copy on a social media platform especially striking. Users on X circulated comments expressing surprise that the upload appeared to be real.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, as cited by the BBC, a second, lower-quality copy surfaced on X on Sunday and was taken down after roughly two hours, by which point it had attracted nearly 50,000 views. Universal said it became aware of the unauthorized posting and began takedown procedures, adding that it takes copyright infringement seriously and will seek appropriate remedies to protect its intellectual property.

BBC reported that the leak is not expected to significantly damage the film’s commercial performance. The Odyssey made $215 million worldwide in its second weekend, bringing its global total to $640 million, according to the article.
