Milima Security warns businesses that cyber threats go beyond banks and telecoms

Nile Post reported that Milima Security has urged Ugandan businesses and individuals to treat cybersecurity as a wider digital-economy concern, rather than an issue mainly for banks and telecom companies. The message was delivered during the State of the Digital Economy (SODE 2026), where participants discussed Uganda’s shift from expanding connectivity to building trusted online services and secure digital participation.

Emmanuel Chagara, speaking for Milima Security, said organisations across sectors need stronger protection as they adopt digital platforms for commerce, communication and service delivery. He described Milima Security as an ISO-certified Ugandan cybersecurity company with experience in East Africa and a focus on helping African businesses protect digital assets.

According to the report, Chagara highlighted people as a major part of cyber risk management, saying many attacks exploit weak habits, limited awareness or failure to identify suspicious activity. He warned that the assumption that cyberattacks mainly affect large, high-value institutions leaves smaller firms and individual users less prepared as more services move online.

The broader significance, as presented in the Nile Post report, is that digital transformation in Uganda will require more than faster networks, artificial intelligence and innovation. Participants at SODE 2026 linked cybersecurity to public trust in online services and to the ability of businesses and innovators to scale safely.
