Middlesbrough agree fee for Spurs striker Lankshear

BBC Sport reports that Middlesbrough have agreed a transfer package with Tottenham Hotspur for striker Will Lankshear, with the overall value potentially reaching a club-record £20m. The proposed agreement is understood to include about £10m up front and a further £10m in performance-related add-ons. The 21-year-old has not yet settled personal terms, and the BBC notes there is reported rival interest in the player.

Lankshear spent last season in the Championship with Oxford United, where he scored 11 goals and provided four assists across 44 league appearances. Before that, he had been a prominent player in Tottenham’s youth setup after joining from Sheffield United in 2022. He scored 23 times for Spurs’ Under-21 side during their Premier League 2 title-winning 2023-24 campaign and was named the competition’s player of the season.

At senior level for Tottenham, Lankshear made his debut in October 2024 against Ferencvaros in the Europa League. In his next appearance in that competition, away to Galatasaray, he scored his first senior goal and was later sent off. If completed, the move would add another attacking option for Middlesbrough as they prepare for the Championship season.

BBC Sport says Lankshear would become Middlesbrough’s fourth signing of the summer, following Miles Peart-Harris, Jeremy Sarmiento and Kyle Joseph. The prospective deal comes after midfielder Hayden Hackney’s move to Everton for around £16m, while Middlesbrough could also benefit from a sell-on fee if Chelsea complete a reported £117m signing of former Boro attacker Morgan Rogers.
