Neowin reports that Microsoft has stopped moving forward with two planned Microsoft 365 features, one for Teams and one for Outlook, after previously listing them as upcoming improvements. The changes affect a Teams compose-box search enhancement and an Outlook search feature tied to Copilot suggestions. According to Neowin, the Teams feature was first communicated to customers in June and had been scheduled for September 2026. It would have expanded @mentions in the chat compose box so users could reference and insert items such as files, chats, channels and meetings without leaving the conversation. Microsoft had presented the tool as a way to reduce switching between contexts and make collaboration faster, but has now said it is not proceeding with the capability at this time.

The Outlook change, Neowin says, had been tracked since April 2026 and would have added Copilot-powered suggestions inside Outlook’s search interface. The intended purpose was to help users find what they needed more quickly through AI-assisted results or prompts. Microsoft has also told customers it is not moving ahead with that update.

The pullbacks matter because Teams, Outlook and Copilot are central parts of Microsoft’s productivity strategy, and the company has been adding AI functions across its software portfolio. Neowin notes that the reason for the reversals is unclear, including whether the decisions relate to technical issues, product quality, limited business value or a broader reassessment of some AI integrations.
