What the report says

Benzinga reported that options markets were signaling potentially large post-earnings moves for several major companies scheduled to report after Wednesday’s closing bell. The outlet said its Benzinga Pro data showed traders positioning for notable swings across a watchlist spanning consumer, software, semiconductor and cybersecurity stocks.

Microsoft was the marquee name in the group. Benzinga said options implied a 6.48% move in Microsoft shares around the results, which, based on a market capitalization of about $2.92 trillion, would put roughly $189 billion of market value in play. The report noted that Microsoft shares were down 17.7% year-to-date in 2026, trading below their 200-day moving average and about 29% under a 52-week high of $555.45. It also cited a Buy consensus rating, with UBS and Guggenheim having reiterated Buy ratings in July, while UBS lowered its price forecast.

The article also highlighted Starbucks, Meta Platforms, Lam Research and Fortinet. Benzinga said Starbucks had the smallest implied move in the five-stock list at 5.76%, equal to about $6.86 billion in market value on a $119 billion capitalization. Meta’s implied move was 7.08%, or about $107 billion in market value, while Lam Research’s was 10.50%, representing about $36.8 billion.

Fortinet carried the widest expected swing, according to Benzinga Pro, with options implying an 11.69% move, or about $13.1 billion in market value. The figures matter because earnings reports can quickly reset investor expectations, especially for large-cap companies where even single-digit share moves can translate into tens or hundreds of billions of dollars in market value.
