Ars Technica reports that Microsoft has expanded its Xbox backward-compatibility program to Windows PCs, making a small group of original Xbox games officially available on PC for the first time. The new program, called “Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC,” begins with four titles: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy.

According to Ars, each game can be bought on PC for $10. Players who already own digital console licenses for the supported games, or who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, can access them without buying them again. Original Xbox discs cannot be used in a PC drive for access. The PC versions add some display options, including Vsync, anisotropic filtering, improved anti-aliasing and resolution scaling up to 4x, while retaining the games’ original frame-rate and aspect-ratio limits.

Microsoft says the first four games should run on hardware as old as a GTX 950 graphics card, while recommending a GTX 1070 Ti with 8GB of VRAM for best performance. Ars cites early Digital Foundry testing that found the experience broadly comparable to running the same games on Xbox Series X, though with reported issues such as uneven frame timing, weak texture filtering and some visual bugs.

The move matters beyond preservation because it further reduces the divide between Microsoft’s Xbox console strategy and Windows gaming. Ars frames the rollout as part of a longer trend that includes Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox-branded handheld PCs. Microsoft described the launch as an initial step in a wider effort to bring more older Xbox games to PC over time.
