Microsoft addresses concerns over LG monitors installing McAfee adware - Windows Central

What the report says
Windows Central reported that Microsoft has contacted LG after users complained that software associated with LG monitors was producing pop-up promotions for McAfee on Windows PCs. According to the report, the issue appeared when an LG monitor was connected and a monitor-control app was automatically installed, after which users saw ads they had to close.
The article says the reaction online was sharply negative, including a widely shared post warning others about the behavior. Microsoft’s Windows chief, Pavan Davuluri, said on X that Microsoft had spoken with LG and that LG agreed as an immediate step to turn off the McAfee pop-up inside its app. He framed the move as part of improving the experience for customers shared by the two companies.
Windows Central noted that many Windows computers already ship with trial software and promotional apps, with McAfee commonly preinstalled by hardware makers. The LG case drew attention because the promotion was tied not to a new PC, but to a monitor utility that arrived after attaching a display to an existing Windows machine.
It remains unclear from the report whether LG’s change will permanently end advertising in the monitor app or only remove the McAfee promotion for now. The episode matters because it highlights ongoing tension over OEM software, user consent, and the amount of advertising or bundled apps that can appear in the Windows ecosystem through third-party hardware and utilities.
