Fox News reported that Michael Kim recorded a 59 in the second round of the 3M Open on Friday, becoming the 16th player in PGA Tour history to post a score below 60. The 33-year-old reached the milestone at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, after making a 24-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th hole.

According to Fox, Kim’s approach into the final green finished on the fringe, leaving him with a long uphill attempt to complete the historic round. Kim said afterward that his main thought was making sure the putt had enough pace, and he celebrated with fist pumps after it dropped. The round included 11 birdies, with Fox noting that eight came on putts longer than 10 feet.

Kim built momentum in several stretches, including five straight birdies beginning at the third hole and four consecutive birdies to close the round. The performance moved him into a three-shot lead over Ben Kohles at the halfway point of the tournament, though Kim emphasized that two rounds remained and that he still needed to reset for the weekend.

The score adds Kim to one of golf’s rarest PGA Tour lists. Fox reported that it was the fourth 59 on tour since 2024, with Jake Knapp the most recent before Kim at the 2025 Cognizant Classic. The PGA Tour’s all-time scoring record remains Jim Furyk’s 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
