What the report says

BBC Sport Football reported that Rangers are aiming to confirm a new signing within the next 48 hours, with manager Derek McInnes saying the club are also trying to add another player before their Scottish Premiership opener away to Dundee United on Friday. McInnes said one deal appears close, while a second addition could follow if negotiations progress in time.

Rangers have already added seven players during the summer window, but McInnes indicated the squad still lacks depth and variety in certain areas. The BBC report said a defender and a winger appear to be priorities. McInnes suggested one incoming player would be a permanent signing and the other could be a loan, although he would prefer both to arrive on permanent terms.

The update followed Rangers’ final pre-season friendly, a 0-0 draw at home to West Ham United, after which McInnes highlighted a shortage of creativity. He said the team need players who can beat opponents in one-on-one situations and provide better service for the forwards. He also pointed to defensive numbers as a concern, noting Rangers had limited senior options available and did not risk Ross McCrorie after a knee issue.

BBC Sport also reported that midfielder Nicolas Raskin will not feature at the start of the season. McInnes said the Belgian is due back from a post-World Cup break this week and acknowledged Rangers expect possible transfer interest in him. The manager added there has been some interest in other unnamed players, but gave no details of imminent departures.
