Mbarara Motor Club eyes redemption through Ntungamo autocross event

Mbarara Motor Club is preparing to host the Ntungamo Autocross at Africa Coffee Park on August 8, in what The Observer says will be an important test of the club’s effort to restore its standing in Uganda’s motorsport scene. The event is being viewed not only as a race, but as a measure of whether the club is ready to regain permission to organize National Rally Championship events.

According to the report, MMC lost those organizing rights in 2023 after failing to comply with Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda regulations. The club is now operating under interim president Seth Murari and says the Ntungamo event will help demonstrate improved planning and oversight. Club secretary Davis Karashani said the location was selected through a sponsorship link and to bring motorsport closer to new audiences, including potential participants from Rwanda and the wider region.

The club has also framed the autocross as a tribute to former MMC driver Wilberforce Pole Pole, who died during the Covid-19 pandemic. The route has reportedly already been designed and approved by the FMU after the required documents were submitted. FMU general secretary Reynolds Kadox Kibira was quoted as saying MMC could be readmitted as a main rally organizer if it performs well. The opening round of the 2026 NRC was previously handled by Motorsport Promo Uganda in Mbale after MMC lost its role, underlining the significance of this event for the club’s comeback bid.
