Mayiga Hails Brothers of Christian Instruction for 100 Years of Shaping Uganda’s Education

Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has praised the Brothers of Christian Instruction for a century of work in Uganda’s education sector, saying the religious teaching order has helped produce disciplined and responsible citizens. The comments came during a visit by a Brothers delegation to Bulange Mengo on Friday, where they briefed him on plans for their centenary celebrations and shared material prepared for the event.

According to Nile Post, the delegation was led by Rev. Bro. Casio Aizire and included Rev. Bro. John Ssenkabirwa. Mayiga, who studied at St. Henry’s College Kitovu and St. Mary’s College Kisubi, said he was grateful for the formation he received from the Brothers and credited them with influencing his leadership, public speaking and wider personal development. He also said their impact extends beyond schools to the broader public service, with many Ugandans in positions of responsibility having passed through institutions linked to the order.

The Brothers are marking 100 years of educating and mentoring young people, with the main centenary celebrations scheduled for September 5, 2026, in Kisubi. Schools associated with the order include St. Henry’s College Kitovu, St. Mary’s College Kisubi and several others across Uganda. Mayiga used the occasion to stress that academic success should be matched by character and discipline.

He also appealed for public support for the Brothers’ plan to build a home for elderly members, one of the initiatives highlighted as part of the centenary observance.
