‘Massive’ Russian attack on Ukraine kills at least six, cuts power in Kyiv

What the report says
Al Jazeera reported that overnight Russian air attacks on Ukraine killed at least six people and triggered power disruptions in Kyiv, coming days after US President Donald Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” in the war. Ukrainian officials said strikes hit the capital and several other regions, including Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Chernigiv.
In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said energy facilities and other infrastructure had been hit, and the city’s largest private power company, DTEK, reported emergency outages in several districts. Ukraine’s state emergency service said two people died in a strike on a residential building in Desnianskyi district and another person was killed in Golosiivsky district. Ukrainian officials also reported deaths and injuries in the Dnipropetrovsk region, while one person was killed in Zaporizhzhia.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had carried out a large strike on communications and energy infrastructure, according to Interfax. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine had not received advance warning from Western partners and accused Moscow of deliberately targeting energy facilities despite the ceasefire language.
The reporting also noted that Ukraine launched drone attacks overnight on Russian territory, with Russian authorities describing interceptions over Moscow and other regions. Separately, a Ukrainian drone strike was said to have killed one person in Russia’s Saratov region. The exchange underscores how the war continues to involve long-range strikes on energy, transport and communications systems, especially as colder months approach.
