Masaka Woman MP Election Petition Ruling Set for December 18

What the report says
The High Court in Masaka has set December 18, 2026, to rule on an election petition brought by Joanita Nalule, the National Resistance Movement candidate, against the election of Joan Namutaawe of the National Unity Platform as Masaka District Woman MP. According to Nile Post, the case was heard before Justice Rossette Kania and centers on whether the issues raised by Nalule are serious enough to affect the outcome of the race.
Nalule’s petition alleges voter bribery, defamatory remarks made during the campaign, and problems linked to results from two polling stations. Her lawyers also sought to have video footage played in court that they said captured campaign statements attributed to Namutaawe, but the court declined that request after questions arose about the device used to record it. The petitioner also argued that the Electoral Commission did not provide results from the two polling stations, which she says warrants judicial review.
Namutaawe, who attended the proceedings with her lawyer and NUP supporters, denied the accusations and said the case lacks merit. Her side argued that the petition is an attempt to extend a dispute over an election already decided by voters. The ruling will determine whether the court upholds the result or orders any legal remedy, making the case significant for Uganda’s ongoing election petition process and for the Masaka parliamentary race.
