Manja Residents Fear for Safety After Businessman Is Shot Dead at Home

What the report says
Residents of Manja Village in Nsangi Sub-county, Kyengera Town Council, are calling for stronger security after businessman Derisa Ssekandi was shot dead outside his home, according to Nile Post. The report says the attack happened around 10 p.m. as Ssekandi returned home in a vehicle with his wife, Falidah Nanyonjo, and their son, Wasswa Abdul Shakuuru. Family members said motorcycle-riding assailants had followed them and opened fire when the vehicle stopped at the gate.
The article says the bullets passed through the car window and struck Ssekandi on the side where he was seated. The attackers reportedly fled without taking any belongings, leaving the family and neighbours uncertain about the motive. Ssekandi was said to be involved in the chicken feed business.
Residents and local leaders told the publication that the killing has deepened fear in the area and renewed concerns about violent crime. Village chairperson Stanley Mukasa urged authorities to increase patrols, while Kyengera Town Council Mayor Joseph Bitokote called for a thorough police investigation. Traders and residents at Ssekandi’s workplace in Kitemu also appealed for justice.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said investigations had begun and asked the family to remain calm. More broadly, the incident has prompted some local figures to advise households that can afford it to consider home security cameras, though that was presented as general advice rather than a reported finding. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
