Manchester Utd midfielder Devaney joins Hibs on loan

What the report says
Manchester United teenager Jacob Devaney is set for another spell in Scotland after agreeing a season-long loan to Hibernian, with the Edinburgh club also holding an option to make the move permanent. BBC Sport Football reported the 19-year-old midfielder’s switch on 18 June 2023.
Devaney spent the first half of the previous season as captain of Manchester United’s Premier League 2 side before joining St Mirren on loan. At the Paisley club, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international made 18 appearances, scoring once and adding one assist. BBC Sport also noted that he played in pre-season for United against Wrexham and Rosenborg, and found the net in the match against the Norwegian side.
Hibs head coach David Gray said Devaney is a talented young international who wants to keep developing, while sporting director Malky Mackay said there had been strong interest from other clubs and pointed to the player’s existing Scottish Premiership experience. The move gives Hibs another young midfield option ahead of the new campaign and offers Devaney a chance to build on his first senior loan spell. In general, clubs often use loan deals like this to give academy players regular first-team football, while retaining the option to extend or complete a permanent transfer later.
