Manchester United vs Tottenham: Premier League – teams, prediction, lineups

What the report says

Al Jazeera previews a Premier League meeting between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday, October 9, with kickoff listed for 5:30pm local time. The article says the match comes at a difficult moment for both clubs, with pressure building on the managers after poor early-season form. It notes that Tottenham are bottom of the table with two points from five games, while United have managed only one win in that span.

The report says United head coach Michael Carrick discussed the wider backdrop of Manchester City’s financial charges case in his pre-match news conference, saying the long-running process has raised questions and affected him personally. Al Jazeera also highlights his comments on medals and the difference between winning trophies and being awarded them later. The piece places Carrick’s comments in the context of his long United playing career and his return as manager after Ruben Amorim’s departure.

On the Tottenham side, the article says manager Roberto De Zerbi is calling for a response after a 3-2 loss to Aston Villa before the international break. It adds that Spurs had gone scoreless in their first four league matches before scoring twice against Villa, and that De Zerbi wants better finishing and final-third play. The preview says the game has been described as “El Sackicko,” reflecting concern that another setback could increase pressure on both coaches.

Al Jazeera also provides recent head-to-head context: United won the last league meeting 2-0 at Old Trafford in February, while Tottenham’s most recent victory there was a 3-0 league win in the 2024-25 season. The article includes projected lineups and injuries for both teams, with several players sidelined or doubtful.
