What the report says

Manchester United defender Gabby George is reported to be close to joining Brighton before the start of the new Women’s Super League season, according to BBC Sport Football. The 29-year-old still has a year left on her United contract after the club triggered an option in January, and Brighton are expected to pay a six-figure fee for her services.

BBC Sport said George is understood to want more regular playing time. She joined United in 2023, made more than 50 appearances, and was part of the squad that won the Women’s FA Cup in 2024. Before that, the England international came through Everton’s academy and played more than 100 matches for the Merseyside club.

Her move would add experience to a Brighton side that has been active in the transfer market. The club, managed by Dario Vidosic, has already brought in players including Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo. Brighton finished seventh in the WSL last season and begin their league campaign at home to Arsenal on 6 September.

The report also comes as United prepare for a period of transition after confirming that manager Marc Skinner left by mutual consent on Monday and that the club is searching for a replacement.
