What the report says

Police in Bwera Division, Kasese District, are investigating the suspected suicide of a 36-year-old man, John Kule, after a domestic dispute with his wife. According to the Nile Post report, the incident is said to have happened in the early hours of Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Kinywangoko I Cell in Kisinga Town Council.

The report says Kule returned home heavily intoxicated and got into a verbal argument with his wife, Mackline Biira. Police spokesperson for Rwenzori East, ASP Elly Maate, said the disagreement included threats of assault and a statement by Kule that he would take his own life. His wife reportedly raised the alarm after he left the house around 4:30am.

Family members and neighbours searched for him and later found his body hanging from a jackfruit tree in a neighbour’s garden at about 7:00am. Police were informed through Kisinga Police Station, visited and documented the scene, and moved the body to Bwera Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. Investigators have since opened a formal inquiry.

The case adds to wider concerns about domestic conflict, mental health and the risks of alcohol-related disputes. Police urged people dealing with personal or family problems to seek help from relatives, community leaders or authorities rather than turning to violence or self-harm.
