What the report says

A man died after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in northern England, according to South Yorkshire Police and the park. Officers and emergency medical teams were called to the site near Doncaster at about 1:35pm local time on Saturday after reports that a man had gone into the enclosure. Police said he was attacked by one of the tigers and died at the scene.

Authorities said it was not immediately clear how the man got into the enclosure. The tiger was not injured, remained inside the enclosure, and police said there was no wider danger to the public. The park was evacuated, and officers stayed at the scene later that day. Police also said the man’s family had been informed and was being supported by specialist officers.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park said it had closed after what it called a serious incident involving the tiger enclosure and would remain shut until Sunday while it worked with authorities to determine what happened. Police asked the public not to share footage circulating on social media that appeared to show the man inside the enclosure before the attack.

The park, which opened in 2009, says its Land of the Tigers area opened in 2011 and houses endangered Amur tigers, also known as Siberian tigers. The incident raises questions about enclosure security and public safety, though officials have not yet released further details about how the breach occurred.
