Man City deserve to keep trophies despite charges, says PSG’s Luis Enrique

What the report says
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has said Manchester City should be allowed to keep the trophies they won while the club faces possible penalties over breaches of Premier League financial rules. Speaking ahead of PSG’s Champions League match against City at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Wednesday, Enrique urged patience and said the final outcome should be left to the authorities handling the case.
According to Al Jazeera’s report, the Premier League found City guilty of using commercial arrangements it described as “sham” contracts to boost revenue and hide costs by more than 900 million pounds ($1.19bn). City have denied wrongdoing and appealed the ruling. Possible sanctions have been reported as ranging from fines and points deductions to relegation or the stripping of titles, although no final punishment has been decided.
Enrique, who is a friend of former City manager Pep Guardiola, said he admired the team’s football and believed they had earned their honors on the pitch. Guardiola, who left City in May, is expected back at the Etihad for the match. The report also noted that Enrique played down suggestions that the game would be an early verdict on either side’s season, saying a clearer picture usually emerges later in the campaign.
