Man Arrested Over Defilement of Four-Year-Old Girl

What the report says
Nile Post reports that police in Kasese District have arrested a 20-year-old man on allegations of aggravated defilement involving a four-year-old girl. The suspect is described as a resident of Buswagha Village, Mughete Parish, in Kitabu Sub-county. The alleged incident is said to have taken place on the evening of July 22, 2026, in the same area.
According to the report, Rwenzori East Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said early inquiries indicate the child had been playing near home with other children when the suspect allegedly called her away with a promise to buy bread. Police allege he then took her behind an old house, where the offence was committed. Afterward, the child reportedly returned home and told her mother, who reported the matter to police.
Nile Post says police traced and arrested the suspect soon after the complaint was made. He remains in custody while detectives continue collecting evidence. Police said the file is expected to be submitted for prosecution after investigations are completed. The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and the suspect should be presumed innocent unless convicted.
The case highlights continuing concerns about violence against children and the importance of prompt reporting. Police urged parents and guardians to monitor young children closely and encouraged members of the public to report suspected child abuse to the nearest police station.
