Mamdani sets internet ablaze with video explaining cave on plan to arrest Netanyahu: 'What a joke' - Fox News

What the report says
Fox News reported that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani drew sharp conservative criticism after posting a video acknowledging that the city does not have the authority to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite Mamdani having previously discussed such an effort during his campaign and as mayor. The report said Mamdani called Netanyahu a “war criminal” and said he had examined possible ways to act on an International Criminal Court warrant, but concluded New York City could not enforce it on its own.
According to Fox, Mamdani’s post on X received tens of millions of views and was praised by some on the left while prompting backlash from Republican officials and conservative commentators. The article cited criticism from Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Sen. Tim Scott, former U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz and others, many of whom accused Mamdani of targeting Israel while ignoring Hamas or engaging in political theater.
Fox reported that Mamdani has described Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide and has urged federal authorities to execute the ICC warrant if Netanyahu comes to New York. The article also noted that the United States does not recognize the ICC warrant. Mamdani said Netanyahu was not welcome in the city, nor was any other alleged war criminal at large.
The dispute highlights a broader political divide over Israel, the war in Gaza and the limits of municipal authority in foreign-policy matters. Fox said it contacted Mamdani’s office for comment.
