Mighty Wanderers Football Club are heading into a key CAF Champions League first-leg match against Tanzania’s Simba Sports Club at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday, with interim coach MacDonald Nginde Mtetemera publicly backing the squad and urging unity. According to the report distributed by AllAfrica from Nyasa Times, Mtetemera said he is prepared to lead the team through what he described as a difficult period for the club.

Mtetemera was put in charge after Bob Mpinganjira was suspended following Wanderers’ surprise 2-1 loss to Ekhaya Football Club in the Airtel Top 8 final, also played at Bingu National Stadium. The interim coach told supporters that the team still believes it can advance, while stressing that cohesion within the club will be important as it tries to recover from recent disappointment.

Wanderers also issued a statement calling on fans to back the new coach, and the club’s supporters’ chairperson, Mark Chimwenje, expressed confidence in the squad’s strength. The club said standard tickets for the first leg will cost K5,000, while VIP tickets will be K25,000, with sales taking place on match day. The winner over two legs will move on to face either De Augsto or Fomboni in the next round.
